We who are the body of Christ need to repent, individually and collectively. We need to ask forgiveness from God, and from the world, for being religious. We have striven to be religious when we were called to be loving. To a large degree we have preached our own version of the knowledge of good and evil as though it were the message of salvation. We need to confess that we have sinned in the gravest fashion by frequently loving our version of truth and ethics more than people, and even God himself. For one cannot genuinely love God while refusing to love one's neighbor.
If we are to be the people God has saved us and empowered us to be, people who live out their true identity in Christ rather than people who live out a religious version of stolen knowledge, we must first repent.
We need to repent of placing our rightness above love. We need to repent of our Christian religion in order to live fully in Christ.
We must testify that it is only by the outrageous love and mercy of God that any of us have any hope. And that, in the end, is the only message we have ever had to offer anyone.
